As well as working in the whisky industry for many years, we have worked at the coal face of whisky production. Our experience comes from operations management in iconic Scottish distilleries such as Caol Ila Distillery, Lagavulin Distillery and Kilchoman Distillery on the island of Islay in the Hebrides. When we host a whisky tasting for you, you can be sure that it will be as authentic as can be.

What to Expect at a Whisky Tasting in Glasgow

  1. Our hosts are knowledgable, experienced, and passionate. They’ve worked in iconic malt whisky distilleries in Scotland.
  2. We hand pick single malt whiskies from around Scotland chosen firstly for their quality but also they are always drams that are close to our hearts.
  3. As a delicious optional extra we can pair the whiskies with beautiful handmade chocolates from The Highland Chocolatier from Grandtully near Pitlochry in the Scottish Highlands.
  4. All glassware is provided.
  5. We’ll liaise with you and the venue to ensure that we deliver the perfect whisky tasting for your guests.

A Very Special Whisky Tasting in Sheffield

I hosted a very special whisky tasting at the Tankersley Manor Hotel and Spa near Sheffield at the weekend. This booking was one of those that was postponed due to Covid 19. It was lovely to be asked to host the whisky tasting as it is the third that I have hosted for this company already. It is nice to know that they enjoy my tastings so much!

Whisky Dinner

My customer had invited their guests from all around the world to attend a multi day training session, I had been asked to host the whisky tasting at their dinner on the last night of the course. I served two of the whiskies with dessert and with the cheese boards. I decided to serve Auchentoshan 12 year old Lowland single malt whisky from the banks of the river Clyde in Glasgow. There was a lovely selection of cheeses on the table and I recommended that guests enjoy the lovely sherry matured Bunnahabhain 12 year old single malt whisky from the North East shores of the Isle of Islay in the Southern Hebrides where I spent a number of years living and working.

The Whisky

After the Auchentoshan 12 year old single malt whisky and the Bunnahabhain we tasted another 4 whiskies.

I regularly show Talisker 10 year old single malt whisky from the Isle of Skye. I love to give my guests Talisker to try as to me it is one of the best whiskies from Scotland for portraying it’s provenance, placeless and for speaking about terroir. I was lucky enough to live on the Isle of Skye for a while and even just the nose of Talisker reminds me of walking back from the pub in Portree on a Saturday night and experiencing the smell of peat reek coming from the croft kitchens.

Following Talisker I served Caol Ila 12 year old single malt whisky from the Isle of Islay. Caol Ila was the first whisky that when I tasted it didn’t simply taste of whisky. It wasn’t until I tasted Caol Ila in the old Earl Grey Inn on the Ashbourne Road in my home town of Leek in Staffordshire that my whisky journey really began. I loved Caol Ila so much that I started to visit the Isle of Islay regularly. Cutting a very long story short I then became the Distillery Manager at Caol Ila Distillery, making the equivalent of 18 million bottles of my favourite whisky every year. Some journey for a whisky enthusiast!

Following the Caol Ila I then served a new edition from Ardbeg Distillery on Islay, the fantastic Ardbeg Wee Beastie, a full bodied and heavily peated single malt whisky. The tasting concluded with one of my own single cask single malt whiskies, a Fraoch Mòinteach single cask single malt whisky distilled in 2003 at Bunnahabhain Distillery and bottled at the cask strength of 53.5% abv.

What Is Involved In a Stag Party Whisky Tasting?

When you arrange a whisky tasting for your stag party with us we will liaise with you to ensure that the event is designed to fit around your other activities, and that the tasting commences at a time convenient to you. That might be before dinner, with dinner (I can pair the whiskies with each course), or as after dinner entertainment.

I bring all of the whisky, the glassware, tasting notes, all I need you to provide me with is some space to conduct the tasting. Some times I’ll use a projector and screen to show a virtual distillery tour, a dining room is great for this.

I’ve worked with whisky for 20 years, I’ve produced it, bottled it, marketed it, retailed it and presented it. For years I worked at the coal face of whisky production on the Isle of Islay in the Hebrides where I was Brand Home Manager at Lagavulin Distillery before becoming Distillery Manager at the largest distillery on Islay, the mighty Caol Ila. My tastings are therefore very authentic as well as being good fun.
